Are you a tech lover?
If you are, then I’m a little jelous! 😜
Because, as you know, tech is such a huge part of running a business today, but many of us – myself included – aren’t techy at all.
I have clients who find it hard to even think about creating their own webpage – others may feel overwhelmed by the pressure of social media or which camera to buy.
That’s why I have created a mini-series on tech fear. This is part 1 of 3 – and today I want to share with you what happens to me when I feal the tech fear, and what I do to manage it.
Tech fear will usually kick in whenever I need to do something techy that I’ve never done before – and when that thing will have a pretty big impact on my business.
This can be something as simple as staying updated with social media OR something bigger like choosing the right platform for my digital course.
What happens inside of me at that point are a few things:
First, I feel resistance! It’s like my whole system is telling me: I don’t want to do this! I feel like a kid who doesn’t want go to school and instead is hiding in a closet somewhere, hoping for the discomfort to go away. 🥴
Then, I feel anxiety. I know that I’ll have to do that thing at some point… Which makes me really nervous… And I also know that putting it off is just keeping me from a ton of great experiences… Which creates even more anxiety… It’s like I’m stuck in a loop! 🤯
Finally, the dissonance of needing but not wanting becomes too much and I have to do something about it. This is usually the point where I will – reluctantly – take on new information or start researching options for whatever solution I need. 😆
With experience, I’ve come to get to know these phases of mine – which is great, because it helps me move past them so much faster!
3 things have helped me manage my tech fear:
First of all is that awareness, knowing that this is how I function. I can look at myself and be like “Oh, so you’re back here again! That’s OK, you go ahead and feel that anxiety and then let’s keep on moving!”
Secondly: looking back. By now, I know that I’ve overcome tons of tech fear moments. I’ve kept going and I’ve learnt on the way. That in itself is an inspiration for the next time tech will have me spinning.
Finally: I take it one step at a time. I avoid thinking about all the things that I will need to learn and do, because that just makes me overwhelmed. Breaking down a huge project into smaller steps really makes the journey seem so much easier!
Now, over to you! 🥰 I’m curious to know how you feel about tech. Do you feel the fear – or are you totally in love with it? Maybe you’re a bit of both! 😊
Stay tuned for the second part of this mini-series which will be coming to you soon! Until then, I’m sending you tons of love, light and courage!
