Last week, I mentioned for the first time that I will be launching a course that will help business owners avoid or come back from burnout.
It was a big step for me.
Because even though I have briefly talked about my own burnout before, I haven’t stepped fully into it.
Part of that has to do with the course not being ready yet. But another part has to do with the stigma surrounding the topic.
That stigma is one of the main reasons why I decided to put this course together!
When we talk about burnout, we must understand why it is such a huge problem.
While it is probably true that certain personality traits increase the risk of burnout, it is equally true that society promotes those very traits and the associated work patterns.
An effective, multi-tasking over achiever who stays long after work hours is simply more valued and desired than someone who has adopted slow living.
Which brings me back to my own burnout and my fear of talking about it.
I have been afraid and ashamed!
Afraid of being perceived as a weak slacker who couldn’t stand the pressure. Ashamed of being “one of those” who hit the wall running.
I was convinced that the whole world would judge me as harshly as I judged myself.
Had my mindset and knowledge been different at the time, I might have been able to entirely avoid exhaustion. But they weren’t and I didn’t.
Because of that, I see it as my duty to pass on what I have learnt about burnout, and to share my own, personal experience of it.
Change can only come with knowledge. And knowledge requires transparency. That is why I’ll be giving you mine.
With lots of love,
Sanna xo
